As per the Rat Creek Press (November 2010), local and independent businesses "keep dollars circulating in the local economy" which triggers other purchases - known as "the multiplier". "Economic impact studies have demonstrated that the multipliers generated by local merchants are anywhere between 58 to 300% greater than those of chain retailers." A very logical reason to support your local community of businesses! Please keep it in mind when you are Christmas shopping.
